Description
This 1950’s Maccaferri G30 “Decorated” is one of the most unique vintage guitars on the planet ! Favored by aficionados like Jack White and Dave Grohl, these plastic novelty guitars have a soul and tone all to themselves. Designed by Mario Maccaferri and made by the French American Reeds Manufacturing Company of Mount Vernon, New York in the 1950’s. Maccaferri (1900-1993) was born in Cento, Italy and at the age of eleven became an apprentice to guitarist and luthier Luigi Mozzani. After an early career as a guitarist and instrument maker in Europe, Maccaferri immigrated to the United States in 1939. Mario Maccaferri developed a variety of plastic instruments including plastic woodwind reeds and a plastic ukulele. This six course (6×1) guitar, model G-30, was made of Dow Styron plastic. This guitar is a rare collectible “decorated” edition, with a gorgeous swirled tortoise shell back, sides, and neck, and an intricate decorative headstock. This is a rare find indeed. Don’t miss out! Take this Maccaferri home today. Its was purchased by its last caretaker at the infamous Mandolin Brothers in 1981. Great to see my buddy a young “Hap Kuffner” co-owner of Mandolin Bros. back in the early days ! It’s truly near mint & comes w/a ton of original paperwork, COA, tons of case candy & bill of sale in its original brown tolex gator soft case.
