1935 MG PB Supercharged Roadster

From the MGB all the way back through the TC that Americans first fell for in the mid-late 1940s, MG sports cars were fairly standard in their motivation and underpinnings. Few know that back in its early days, MG was one of the most progressive automakers in Great Britain. Internal politics spelled the end of the regular production single overhead cam engine in 1936, and the last Midget to be so fitted was the classic PB. To fend off increasing competition in the sports car market, the MG Car Company created the PB Midget for 1935. This car shared its two- and four-seat roadster and Airline Coupé body variants with the PA, but it gained a detail that would quickly become MG tradition: vertical slats, replacing wire mesh, in the radiator grille. The PB’s wood dashboard gained three more gauges, highlighted in bright octagonal surrounds. The PA’s 12-inch cable-operated drum brakes were retained, but the twin-SU carbureted, 847cc SOHC four-cylinder was enlarged to 939cc via a 60mm bore (retaining its 83mm stroke), and its horsepower increased to 43.3hp. This “big block” was mated to a new close-ratio, non-synchronized four-speed gearbox.The PB sold for the same price as the outgoing PA, and leftover PAs were discounted; in fact, 27 PAs were reportedly retrofitted and sold as PBs at the end of the year. By the time that PB production ended in 1936, an estimated 526 had been built. This would be the last series production OHC MG until the dual overhead-cam engine debuted in the 1958-’60 MGA Twin Cam. This wonderful PB, w/VIN # PB0260, has come from a good home in Miami since 2005. Jimi Rosen made luv to his PB making it into a fantastic user friendly road car while retaining all of its most importent original paperwork including the Factory Build Sheet stating this was a British Racing Green w/Green interior from new. These PB’s were never delivered w/the optional factory Supercharger, but this Shorrock Supercharger was installed by the factory early on in its life making this PB come alive. These were MG’s 1st road going 2 passenger racing car that had all the panache of a mid-30’s Aston Martin Ulster to a cool Riley Imp. Benifitting from some major rebuilding to its original matching #’s 939cc SOHC motor, Clutch + many other components, she performs flawlessly. Its Green coachwork is painted to a high quality a few years back. She has freshly painted Wires on a new set of correct Firestone 4.50-19 tires. This body style being the sportiest version in 1935…this being the 6th car produced out of only 526 PB’s including all other body types.
