Description
This is the ultimate original Pre-CBS Precision Bass w/a “Slab” Rosewood neck w/all early features in very original condition, it has its original faded 2 1/2-Tone’burst finish over a very lightweight Alder body, it seems the original outer black areas of the ‘burst were oversprayed at some time in its life but overall she has a great looking finish, the original pencil date of 3/61 is clearly read in the pickup cavity, these 1st Slab Necks are ridiculously rare w/its “Unbound” Rosewood Clay Dot inlaid fingerboard & is dated 2/61 & still retaining its original frets, but this has a ridiculously flamey maple neck not found on many Fenders ever. Its original Tortoiseshell Nitro pickgard has that luscious light pepperoni color used only from 1959-1961, its original split Pickup is super smooth w/that quintessential “Jamerson” funk tone !, its pot date codes are from the 36th & the 47th week of 1960, its so cool from its nickel tuners to its threaded saddle bridge, this is 1 of Leo’s earliest known “Slab Rosewood” P Basses & has a gorgeous patina for a 63 year old original, it plays & feels incredible, 1 of the best P Basses complete w/an original early 60’s Brown tolex/Orange lined Hard Case.
