Description
These 2nd issue “Non-Reverse” Thunderbird’s & Firebird’s were so far ahead of time & very few were ever made comparatively to Fender’s P & J Basses. Most all T’bird’s were available in a Sunburst finish. But some were ordered in their select Custom Colors. This particular example was ordered in Gibson’s most luv’d optional color of Pelham Blue all over its neck & body. Very little yellowing but she’s has plenty of playtime wear. These tend to get funky from playing in bars & clubs & get nicotine stained. This ‘bird’s fairly clean w/no major yellowing. Its rosewood fingerboard is straight as an arrow & its neck is very playable. It’s nickel plated pickup covers & all parts are all original & faded like they should be. It has lots of weather checking up & down the back of the neck & body. Its 2 original pickups sound like a Jazz Bass w/a thinner nut than most Gibsons & a very straight neck. Its original pickgard has shrunk a bit around the screws. It has its nickel plated bridge cover is still intact. It’s got some finish worn in nicely on the back top of the neck showing its original layers of finish. This has had an almost invisible slight headstock crack repair seen ever so slightly from the front w/its back of its headstock now sporting a cool black stinger added to cover the repair…hence no serial # showing. The best part is that its 3 original pot codes date her to the 34th week of 1965 just for its verification. A rare 8 lb. 12 oz. bass that plays delightfully & sounds great at a fair market value. It’s truly 95% original & comes in a decent modified Epi square hard case.
