1969 Martin D-21

The Martin Brazilian Rosewood “Dread” was their most popular model & this late-60’s example represents the last of these produced. It’s a beautifully original 1969 D-21, a 14-fret Dreadnought slightly dressed down w/less body binding & trim level as compared to its more expensive D-28 sibling. While the guitar shows just a bit of play time it also remains in perfect playing condition and offers fantastic sound one expects. The power and depth of a Dreadnought combines with the sweetness, sparkle, and singing character of the best Rosewood Martins in a magical mix, making this an exceptionally versatile flat-top guitar suited to practically any musical situation. The top is made of tight-grained spruce, its Brazilian Rosewood back & sides have insanely beautiful colors & grain patterns unlike most & aged nicely, bound on the front & back edge with black celluloid. The rosewood belly bridge is original albeit only slightly shaved down. The pickgard is made of a fat tortoise celluloid that looks original, most likely replacing its original black one that peeled off years ago. The neck is mahogany w/an unbound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard discreetly inlaid with small mixed-size pearl dots. The peghead is faced w/a Brazilian Lamination w/a gold “C.F. Martin & C.” decal at the top. The neck profile has a slim rounded feel that feels great. The tuners are original Grover Stay-tite units with metal buttons. Its had a very pro-repaired headstock fracture as seen in detail in our photos. It’s really almost unnoticeable & it sings & plays like no other D-21 we have had. It’s exceptionally clean overall, otherwise uncracked & 1 of the coolest final production Brazilian 60’s D-21’s extent. It comes in a original black tolex/blue lined shaped hard case.
