Description
This is an exceptionally fine hand made 1700’s style Baroque Guitar built by Larry Higgins, a fairly famous luthier from the San Francisco area. This was his specialty making complicated pieces of artwork like this 10 string masterpiece. Completed in July 1980 & sold the his shop, Higgins & Sons. It’s an amazing mix of birdseye maple & Brazilian Rosewood. Its neck is made from so many pieces just an amazing feat w/5 courses of gut strings and moveable gut frets. Its back & sides have huge vertical stripes of figured maple & striped rosewood that took a zillion hours to create. Tons of matching wood rope on the top edge & soundhole. Its spruce top was just replaced by Bob Peterson from Angel Guitars as it was subject to UPS & had a bad day. Its was massaged back to as-new having all its stunning rope bindings & rosette perfectly back in place. Its wooden mustache bridge & original 3 top frets were put back on. Its intricate Guilded Rosette was Larry’s experienced workmanship. Its label inside is perfectly legible & still in place. Notice the pics of the progress when getting restored. This 44 year old Baroque guitar by Larry Higgins is a prized piece of guitar history made in the land of the Dead ! For the picky collector. It’s exceptionally clean & ready to enjoy. No case.
